Spanish investment bank and asset manager Alantra has promoted Michael O’Sullivan to managing director and appointed him head of credit portfolio advisory in Ireland, as part of several promotions in CPA, which advises on non-core loan portfolios.
O’Sullivan joined Alantra in 2018 and was previously part of KPMG’s portfolio solutions group, which had a team of 35 people who joined Alantra. O’Sullivan previously worked for HSBC, according to his profile on LinkedIn.
Alantra said it has also promoted Dublin-based Brian Minnock to director from senior vice-president. He joined in December 2018 after working at Pepper Financial Services and KBC’s Irish arm, specialising in distressed corporate, real estate and SME portfolios.
Madrid-based Alantra is one of the leading advisory firms for loan portfolios, working on executing deals, structuring, pricing, modelling and data analysis. It has advised on many of the biggest recent deals in Greece, Italy, Ireland and across Europe, including for Alpha Bank and Eurobank. In Ireland, last year, it was co-lead financial adviser to Permanent TSB on its acquisition of Ulster Bank's retail portfolio and worked on deals for Pollen Street Capital and AIB.
It said it made several promotions across CPA after a successful 2021, when the unit's net revenues increased 80% from a year earlier to €51.5m and it advised on 59 deals worth €58.8bn, a fourfold increase on 2020.
It also promoted Mary Alexopoulou, Umberto Grassi, Kate Reddick, Bruno Estanque Viegas, Harry Sideris, Alessio Di Mario and Jack Geoghegan to senior vice-presidents within the CPA team.
Alantra has also been expanding in investment banking, where it targets mid-sized companies that it says are underserved by the major banks. It has more than 550 staff in Europe, the US, Latin America, the Middle East and Asia.
