Thomson Reuters today announced that DealWatch, IFR’s Japanese language sister news service covering the Japanese capital markets, has named Nomura Securities ’House of the Year’ for 2011. Takeda Pharmaceutical wins the coveted ’Issuer of the Year’ award.

The annual DealWatch Awards were established in 1995 with the aim of rewarding excellence and innovation in Japan’s capital markets over the course of a financial year. Since then, they have developed to become the industry standard in recognizing achievement in Japan’s investment banking community.

DealWatch Awards 2011 have seven categories of awards including Overall, Straight Bond, Local Government Bond, Samurai Bond, ABS, Equity-linked Bond and Equity.

Screening starts with a questionnaire sent to underwriting houses with lead managers and/or syndication experience, and institutional investors. Suitable candidates are then selected based on public transactions completed within the past fiscal year. Underwriting houses have the opportunity to pitch their deals if they wish to do so. Finally, DealWatch editors carefully screen the transactions and select winners based on the judgment criteria above.

The major award winners will be presented the trophies at the annual DealWatch Gala Awards Dinner, which takes place at the Grand Hyatt in Tokyo on Thursday, May 17 2012. A complete list of all winners of DealWatch Awards 2011 is attached below.
