The 17th annual IFR Awards Gala Dinner took place on January 18 at London’s Grosvenor House. Some 1,200 guests attended the glittering event and witnessed a string of senior capital markets professionals as well as senior officials at our Issuers of the Year pick up IFR’s major awards. Rich Ricci, co-CEO of Barclays Capital, graciously accepted the IFR Bank of the Year award from HRH The Princess Royal, President of Save the Children; Keith Mullin, Editor-at-Large of IFR; and Matthew Davies, IFR’s Editor.
Our awards host this year was comedian Hugh Dennis, while after-party entertainment was provided by Heather Small, of dance music act M People. IFR traditionally holds the event in support of Save the Children. This year was no exception. TV personalities Natasha Kaplinsky and Jonny Gould hosted the famous IFR Tombstone (a simulated bond issue syndicated live at the event). A phenomenal £1.256m was raised in a matter of minutes, thanks to a magnificent donation of £600,000 by Barclays Capital, which walked off as bookrunner. The total amount raised by attendees at the IFR Awards event since inception is now in excess of £20m.
